ABOUT

Fitz is a multi-talented, award-winning filmmaker renowned for her versatility across genres, seamlessly navigating the realms of drama and comedy. Originating from vibrant comedy troupes performing in New York and Boston, Fitz possesses a unique ability to uncover compelling narratives within the everyday drama and humor of our lives.

Making her scripted directorial debut on OWN's acclaimed series, QUEEN SUGAR, Fitz garnered praise for her exceptional framing, storytelling pace, and profound connection to each talent, both on and off-screen. Another pivotal moment in her career came when she was invited by Ava DuVernay again to helm the director’s chair to direct the first season of MAX's ONE PERFECT SHOT, a groundbreaking hybrid documentary series exploring renowned filmmakers in augmented reality.

Her award-winning feature documentary, JEWEL'S CATCH ONE, premiered internationally at BFI, distributed by Ava DuVernay's ARRAY, and streamed on NETFLIX to critical acclaim. The film has been hailed as "essential viewing in America," shedding light on one of the oldest Black queer-owned discos and its owner's remarkable journey in creating a safe haven for diverse communities.

Fitz's recent directorial endeavors include a captivating campaign for McDonald's, where she whimsically traversed Brooklyn hand in hand with the iconic Hamburglar.

In the realm of unscripted TV, Fitz made her mark as a producer on BRAVO's groundbreaking QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY and later took the helm as showrunner for the YA makeover show KNOCK FIRST, contributing her expertise for an impressive 104 episodes.

 

Fitz's prowess extends beyond traditional media, with her digital work for clients such as PEPSI, SHOWTIME, and DISNEY earning her four Webby Awards. In Fitz’s earlier career in journalism she was recognized for her investigative filmmaking, receiving the Society of Journalism's Excellence in Journalism award. Prior to her television ventures, Fitz crafted several award-winning short films, showcasing her talent for visual framing, complex character development, and dynamic camera work.

 

Fitz grew up on the East Coast playing disco music, little league and the trumpet. Her passion for television and film is surpassed only by her dedication to illuminating the stories of underrepresented individuals. Currently based in LA, Fitz frequently returns home during the summer months, ensuring her cat Gracie amasses a generous collection of frequent flyer miles.
